I just noticed yesterday that my grass is starting to die all over the yard where Gracie has eliminated. Any idea why? Let me rephrase that, I know why but any tips on how I can prevent this?

Hmm. Never heard of a female's urine killing grass. Only males.

There are treats specifically made to help the PH in the urine and they are suppose to help avoid the grass getting killed.

Check Petco or Petsmart.

Safetyman 57,
Hey, FiveDogs here... I don't know how much control you have over it, however we only fertalize the front yard the way recomended on the bag. In the back we cut the ratio that the spreader puts down in half off of the bag recomendation. Then about 4 weeks later, we do the back again, the same way. This really helps reduce the yellow spots for us. 3 females 2 males, and I am not sure the puppy even counts at this point, if we do it as it is recomended on the back... bad news!! It REDUCES it, we still get some right after we fertalize that first week or so, but I just scrape the dead grass out and throw a handfull of new seed in the spot. Seems to do the trick. I am not sure how it works, bu there is a product at PetsMart you can get that claims to prevent it as well. With 5 dogs, we put in a little extra time and go the cheap route!!!

I've tried the tablets from PetsMart and even Dr Fosters extra strength tablets and we still have yellow spots in the yard. I have a three year old female (less than 50#) and she's been fixed. We have a lawn service company and they've told us the acidity of her urine not only kills the grass but also damages the soil. My first thought was the lawn service wanted to charge us more for some special chemical or service but they said they can't fix the yellow spots because the soil is damaged.
Our yard is not fenced - so she goes on a leash each time we go out and for now we're using a gallon jug of water and deluting the area each time. But that still doesn't seem to work.
Did you find anything that works besides the tablets?
(ps we're giving the recommend dose per weight etc)
